News from Grooming Workshop December 2011

Are you thinking about getting a Wheaten puppy?

Established in 1955, The Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier Club of GB was registered by the Kennel Club in January 1957 and is the national Wheaten Breed club for Great Britain. Whilst the Club has expanded and adapted to meet the needs of today, the original purpose of the Club at registration remains unchanged. That is to maintain and protect the breed type according to the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier Breed Standard approved by the Kennel Club; to promote sensible breeding of the Soft-Coated Wheaten with regard to type, soundness and temperament; safeguard the health of the breed by all possible means; to provide assistance to breeders and new owners; to provide information to prospective owners on breed characteristics; to keep members regularly informed of the points of interest concerning the breed and progress of the Club and to advance the interests of the breed by supporting shows and by educating judges. And last, but not least, to promote the interests of the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier by any other means.

Are you thinking about getting a Wheaten puppy?

Are you wondering where to start looking? Want to chat to an experienced owner and meet their Wheaten? The SCWT Club of GB runs a unique puppy waiting list and we can also let you have the contact details of one of our Area Reps to visit and learn more about our lovely breed. We stongly recommend such a visit. For more information, please read 'Owning a Wheaten' in the 'Resources' section and for puppy list and Area Rep information, send the 'Puppy List' form which you'll find in the 'User Menu'.

We strongly recommend that you get your puppy from a reputable breeder. Please beware of breeders who advertise puppies or litters on the internet, in 'free ad' papers and puppy sales web-sites. These puppies are usually not reared with the care that is necessary to produce a healthy and happy puppy.

Forthcoming Club Events

The SCWT Club of GB organises events in different parts of the country throughout the year, including walks, fun days, shows and grooming workshops. All Wheaten enthusiasts and prospective owners are welcome to attend. For more information about all Club events, click here.

The next Club event is a GROOMING WORKSHOP to be held at Moulton Village Hall, Moulton, nr. Newmarket Suffolk, CB8 8SP on Saturday 31st March 2012, from 10.00am to 4.00pm.
These workshops have proved very popular and give the Wheaten owner the opportunity to learn how to groom and trim their own Wheaten, with step by step instruction and with the aid of a 'Grooming Buddy'.
Everyone is welcome to attend, whether you are currently a Wheaten owner, planning to become one or maybe a professional dog groomer who would like a bit more experience of trimming the Soft- Coated Wheaten Terrier.
The price is £15 for owner and dog, £10 for helper. This includes lunch, tea, coffee etc.
