PLE/PLN (Protein Losing Enteropathy/Protein Losing Nephropathy)

Any cases, or suspected cases, of PLE or PLN should be reported to the Club so that a watch can be kept on this, as with any other potential health problem.  The situation is being monitored and a list of those Wheatens clinically proven to be, clinically shown as or suspected to be losing losing protein by a specialist veterinary advisor is published regularly in our Christmas Bulletin and the annual Yearbook.

For those concerned about PLE / PLN and the testing procedures involved, information is included in Bulletin 127 & 128, Spring and Summer 2004, along with details of the SCWT Club of America's recommended health screening. Copies are also available upon request via the General Enquiries form, or the American Web site www.scwtca.org

There have been only a small number of Wheatens in the UK confirmed as losing protein by our veterinary specialists , in comparison to the population of Wheatens born here in the UK.
