Blood for DNA Storage

If your Wheaten needs a blood test for any reason, please also consider having some of the blood stored for future DNA testing. Dr Matthew Binns at the Animal Health Trust has arranged for blood to be stored free of charge for any breeds that may carry a hereditary disease. The storage of blood from as many lines as possible will be of great importance to the future of our breed, once the genes for the hereditary diseases have been identified. It is important to consider samples of 'older' significant dogs in the breed. Samples from three or more generations will help the DNA mapping. Information and the necessary forms, together with copies of your dog's pedigree can be obtained from the Committee. Please notify the Committee if samples have been stored.
